This is a good thing and we are welcoming the role that emerging powers like China, Brazil, India, Russia, Turkey, and others are now playing either regionally or globally. But, like any asset, we need to continue to invest significantly and prudently to retain these capabilities. Adequately funding all elements of our national power is essential if we are going to be able to exercise leadership in the 21st Century.

We will not do it the same way we have over the past 50 years, but we become isolationist, or if we fail to put our economic house in order, it will be devastating for the world, not just our own country. I would like to tell you I plan to join the senior golf tour, but like all amateurs, my game is still a work in progress. Seriously, there is no greater honor than serving the American people.

I loved every minute of it. My academic focus will be on the execution of national security policy in a global media environment. Obviously we are seeing public opinion and the media play an increasing role in international affairs. The Arab Spring is just the latest example, which I plan to incorporate into my classes. Over time, I will do a range of things that allow me to stay engaged in global media issues, public diplomacy and national security affairs.

During the Kosovo conflict, he worked under Javier Solana, Secretary General of NATO, helping to develop a strategic communication capability to keep American and European publics informed about military operations, but also counteract deliberate efforts by the Serbian government to use state-controlled media coverage to undercut public support for the NATO campaign.

He retired from the Air Force in as a colonel. Prior to joining the Department of State, Crowley was a senior fellow with the Center for American Progress, with a particular policy focus on homeland security and combating terrorism in ways that are consistent with the rule of law, and can sustain long-term public support. While Obama rightly placed primary responsibility on Libya - the interim government was overconfident of its ability to manage its transition to democracy — he seemed to also finger a distracted Europe, which had a bigger stake in Libya's future.

Ok, but in fairness the EU financial crisis and Greek bailout were more than mere distractions. Their ripple effects impacted American markets in meaningful ways.
